  The Pedestrian Learning Objective: Be able to pick out imagery and figurative language and discuss how they create meaning in a text Today we are going to review vocabulary and read "The Pedestrian".  You need to mark and record  5 - descriptions/imagery th 5 - examples of figurative language   Go HERE First, let us look at vocabulary words of the day. After we finish, you will fill out a short story outline. HW: "Inside the Home of the Future" on page 337 and answer questions 1-4 on page 339.  Today you will take your first vocabulary quiz. When you are finished, please work on the journal entry from yesterday:  Outline the day routine of the family that lived in the house.   You will do this by going back through the story and marking what happens with the house and when it happens.  Create a hour-time line.  Example: 8 am: "Time to Run".  The house plods the children out the door to go to school.   The garage door opens indicating that the father will be leaving for work.  The house begins to clean... Please do not skip anything or your blog grade may suffer.  You will need 3-4 detailed sentences per time.

 Please turn in your storyboards. Today, we are going to discuss the story "There Will Come Soft Rains", give you time to finish the short story outlines, and work on the blog assignment below. Wednesday

We are going to write sentences with Paranoia and Silhouette Then we will move onto "THERE WILL COME  SOFT RAINS".   Essential Question: Can Technology Save US?   Objective: Be able to pick out 3 allusions and explain how they reinforce the main idea (theme)?  Also note, or mark the times that are used in the story.  You will eventually (tomorrow) have to outline the story on your blogs by a timeline.     You will also fill out a short story outline as we read. NOTE: How could you use allusions in a personal narrative?   HW: Finish Storyboards.

 Today we are going continue working on your storyboards.  Remember you have a vocabulary quiz coming on Friday. You might want to start creating a quizlet for review.

Monday

   Today you need to write sentences with the words: Manipulate and Oblivious Then we will review literary terms for your quiz coming up on Thursday. Finally: STORYBOARD PROJECT: By yourself, you will create a storyboard for “Harrison Bergeron”.  I want you to use your notes on the list of events in the plot.  Things you will need to include in your storyboard: 1)      At least twelve events from the story.  Make sure you have at least one scene dedicated to each part of the part.  2)      Above the scene write the part of plot in which the scene happens.  3)      Below the scene write a brief description of the scene.  The should be some analysis of what is going on in the scene or a "quotation" from the story and brief discussion of the quotation.   GRADING SCALE: 4 0   - More than 12 scenes are presented; detail...

Today we are going to do a few things: 1) write sentences with the next two vocabulary words (      ).  2) go over your short story outlines. 3) As a group we will do questions 1-9 on page 45, and 4) Write a sequel to Harrison Bergeron.  The choice of the sequel is up to you, but you can discuss the parents' reaction when they are informed of Harrison's death, or take the point of view of one of the ballerinas or either write a sequel from the point of view of the Diana Moon Glampers, the Handicapper General.  Remember this world is a negative-utopia.   Monday, we will begin STORYBOARDS (BRAHAHAHA).   HOMEWORK: Study Literary Terms. If you have time in class you might want to make a quizlet or something.

 Today we are going to continue to take notes on literary terms and read "Harrison Bergeron" but first we will write sentences with Neutralize Synchronize

Today we will finish reading "How to Mark a Book", make sure everyone is on Remind, go over Unit I, and take notes/review Literary Terms. You will have a literary term quiz next week.  Note - make sure you have looked up your vocabulary words.  Short Stories: In this unit students will read short stories from various authors and look at literary devices  employed in each story.  The short story is the most compact prose form and therefore the best to  look at as an introduction to literature.  The devices the students discover in this unit will reappear  throughout the semester when we discuss The Novel, DRAMA and POETRY.   The ultimate goal is for students to acquire the basic understanding of the working of literary at a  root and elementary level.
